Why is it important to understand and
practice the basics of being a Christian?
To stop the bleeding and address issues
To free us from the shackles of wrong thinking and wrong beliefs
about God, His Word, and our relationship with God
American evangelist D.L. Moody (1837-1899) said, "If we could only make
people believe that God loves them, they would be crowding into the
Kingdom of Heaven! The trouble is that men think God hates them, and so
they are always running away from Him."
To understand and nail down what events/actions are prescriptive (or
normative) as opposed to being descriptive

Identity
One of the most common causes, if not the main cause, of unhealthy
sinful behavior
What is your identity rooted in or where/what do you find your
identity in?

Intimacy with God
You can seek all the help, all the tools, all the resources, etc. to get help or
improve yourself, but theyre all meaningless IF you do NOT have a real
intimate and ongoing relationship with Him

We work on both at the same time to make any progress towards
healing and living a life worthy of Jesus, giving Him all the glory. We
PARTNER with God in the journey!
Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds
we are healed.

James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that
you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is
working.

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
